Wedding-Related Alligators

June 19, 2005

So, I’ve been nigh onto incommunicado of late.

I have a good reason. I’m not going to go into details on the internet, but our officiant basically bailed on us in an incredibly hurtful and unproffessional way. Katie and I have been wrestling this alligator for almost a week and a half, and it made chatting about this and that a little hollow.

Thankfully, everything has turned out all right (as it tends to). We’ve gotten in touch with some friends of Katie’s folks who are willing to do the ceremony. Hopefully we’ll be able to work with them in the limited amount of time left before the ceremony, and come up with something that will make everyone happy.

In a contrast to the frustration of that business, we’ve gotten some big hurdles taken care of. The one we’re particularly excited about is the rings. We now have our wedding rings, safely stored away for August. Katie’s is a simple gold band that fits against the engagement ring. It is simply beautiful, and the craftsmanship is amazing. It really looks like it completes the ring, and fits perfectly. My ring is a white gold band, and while it doesn’t have the attractiveness of Katie’s rings it is quite handsome in an understated way. I’m happy with it.

Thanks again to everyone who’s been helping us out with invitations, service providers, accoutrements, and moral support. Probably the best thing to come out of the frustrations of the past week is the knowledge that everyone is behind us as much as they are.
